Content Creation Tip: 5 Smart Ways to Format Your Blog Post (So It Gets Read)

Your battle with content creation is never-ending. You just spent the last week polishing up a stellar blog post. You want it to go viral but how?
If you want to get noticed, find your purpose.

Is it to gain more Facebook fans? Grow your email list? Get media attention? or Is it simply to stroke your ego?
Once you know the purpose of your content, find your signature style. It's what will capture your audience's attention. Start with these easy to carry out formatting tips.
1. Use A Captivating Image
Use a large, clean, high quality, eye-catching image to draw on the emotions of your readers.
Example:
If the title of your blog post is "How to End Toddler Tantrums Without Going Crazy", use an image of a toddler screaming or of a frustrated Mom looking down at her toddler on the floor.
This invokes empathy and draws the reader in.
2. Add Lots Of White Space
Have you ever read a blog post formatted like a book or an essay? Frustrating.
Reading online and on mobile devices is tiring on the eyes. Adding plenty of hard returns to your content makes it easier to read.
Don't worry about following your English teacher's rules about paragraphs. Online writing is very different from writing for school or business.
3. Make Your Heading Clear
When brainstorming the heading answer the question "Why should I read this?" from your readers' point of view. Does it clearly state the benefit received by clicking through?
Examples:
  • Here's Why You Shouldn't Believe What He Says About Your Butt
  • 7 Tips to Help You Labor Like a Princess
  • 17 Shortcuts to Internet Marketing Success
Each headline is crystal clear about what you'll get when you click through.

4. Make Consistent Subheadings
Subheadings are mini-headings. These help explain your main topic better. Use consistent styling all throughout your blog post.
Example:
  • Use bullets or numbers not both
  • Use the same capitalization (if you capitalize the first letter in each word do so for every subheading)
  • Use the same font
  • Consistently use bold or italics
5. Make Your Content Share-able
Resize and edit photos for social media. Add text to explain the benefit of clicking through.
A quote, quick action step, or take away helps encourage a quick tweet on Twitter.
As you can see, formatting easy to read blog content is simple. Start with an emotionally appealing image, plenty of white space, a clear heading, consistent subheading styles, and top if off with a few quotes.

When You Should Change Your Digital Marketing Strategy

January 15, 2018 0
When You Should Change Your Digital Marketing Strategy

Digital Marketing is continually evolving and this may seem unsettling at times. Strategies that were working in past, might not be effective in the present. Do you know why many businesses fail to get ahead of their competitors? It's simply because they are not willing to adapt to the ever-changing world of digital media.

But, the great thing about a digital marketing strategy is that you can change them on the fly in response to real-time results and analytics data. While this may seem tricky as if you change things too quickly, you may not be able to find if your strategy worked for long-term. But if you wait for a long time, you are likely to waste your two valuable resources: time and money.
With that said, how do you know when its the right time to change your Digital Marketing strategy? To help you keep up with the fast-paced industry, I've created this post to help you know when to change your digital marketing strategy.
Below are the 5 signs to help you decide when to quit your existing strategy.
1. Focusing on low-value metrics
If you're concentrating on low-value metrics like impressions and clicks, you may be missing out because impressions and clicks only let you know about your marketing visibility. And not the real accuracy of your strategies.
2. Only focusing on your brand not on audience needs
Every marketer wants to spread their brand name but you should not overdo by pasting your brand name all over everything. In fact, make your content educational that focus on your audience problems and needs.

This would really help you in targeting buyers in initial stages of the buyer's journey.
3. Over usage of keywords
Although, it's required to place keywords in your content, Google's priority always lies in providing reach user experience and relevancy of content. Google has nothing to do with how many times your site shows the keyword like "Digital Marketing Strategy."
4. Don't rely on your instinct
Your prior experience is certainly precious. But your decision-making process should not be only based on what worked in the past. It's a really bad idea as what worked tomorrow may be completely irrelevant today. Therefore guiding your marketing strategy through objective data will only get you better results.
5. Not integrated
Whether it's about veteran digital marketer, sitting in IT or a start-up company, it's too common for digital marketing strategies to be finished in silos. It is an easier way but of course, it's not effective. It's true that digital approach works best when it's integrated with traditional channels.
Now you know that if you need to change your digital marketing strategy or not, here is a complete guide to help you build a new, powerful marketing strategy to achieve your online goals.
What are the essential steps for creating an effective digital marketing strategy?
When creating a marketing strategy for your business, always keep your audience first. Set goals, plan your strategy, implement it, and finally measure your success.
  • Research on your target market and competitors
  • Know your audience because if you don't them, how can you help them
  • Integrate different marketing strategies and use only the correct tools
  • If you don't have the required skills set, don't hesitate to purchase special services
  • Identify your online value proposition and apply it across all digital marketing channels
  • Last but definitely not the least, prepare yourself
But before you do something ask yourself few questions.

Asking yourself right questions and having their answers in place will certainly help you make the right decisions. I've given some Q's & A's below to help you out.
Which digital channels are most effective for you and why?
With so many digital channels around, it gets difficult to choose the best one. So you can identify it with these simple basics:
  • Identify the channel where most of your potential customers like to hang out
  • Analyze your target audience behavior
  • Build awareness with Twitter
  • Attend industry events and conferences
  • Social media and newsletters to reach out to your potential customers
  • SEO or combination of SEO and PPC to help you attract more visitors
How to evaluate your digital marketing activities?
Unfortunately, some companies don't know how to answer this question correctly. If you're also one of them, don't feel embarrassed! Just hop on and find out how can you determine the right metrics and evaluate your current digital marketing activities.
  • Identify your target KPI (Key Performance Indicator) to help you understand what's working
  • Monitor your website traffic and sales to know the necessary statistics about your customers
  • Track and measure your metrics through Google Analytics
  • Survey your site visitors to find if they're satisfied with your solutions
  • Track ROI, conversions, market share, and sales
How to make your business stand out from the crowd?
In today's competitive digital market it's really difficult to make your business stand out from your competitors.

But an effective strategy can help you stay ahead of them. Let's see how.
  • Effectively communicate and educate your customers
  • Stay honest and transparent to build customer's loyalty
  • Talk less, listen more
  • Be authoritative and helpful in what you do
  • Know your competitors and learn from them
  • Be creative, open-minded, and try new technologies
  • Speak in your audience language
  • Use proof points and testimonials to show you're the best
Final Thoughts
As the world of online landscape changes, so should your digital marketing strategy. So it's essential to stay aware of the changing market and the new advancements in technology to help you grow furthermore.

A Happily Ever After for Chatbots & Messaging Apps?

December 27, 2017 0
A Happily Ever After for Chatbots & Messaging Apps?

On the aftermath of their debut on messaging apps, chatbots have been at the epicenter of an ongoing conversation about personalisation. Why did this collaboration happen? And how far will this go? It's time to take a deep dive.
In the '60s, renowned media analyst Marshall McLuhan argued that the 'Medium is the message'. He was certain that it had a role in shaping and controlling "the scale and form of human association and action" up to an extent. According to this theory, the medium embeds itself onto anything it transmits, and it directly influences the way the actual message is perceived. It tries to be an extension of our senses, expanding our ability to perceive and interact with the world.

Today, about half a century later, the medium becomes an acceptable form of human interaction - say hello to your messaging apps. As of last year, there were 1 billion users (14% of the world's population) on WhatsApp. And combined with the users on Messenger, there are 60 billion messages - text, video, recordings that are sent and received each day. Where else would businesses find a better level of engagement?
In a recent survey conducted by Facebook, participants who could chat with retailers on these messaging platforms, be it on transactions, inquiries, or post sales services, felt more positive about the business. Commerce became a personal affair. McLuhan was right, and is still right - The impact of messaging does lie on the medium.

It's been almost 20 years, and why haven't businesses been largely successful harnessing these platforms yet? Because until chatbots came along in 2016, businesses marketing themselves via messaging apps were oblivious to one philosophy/brand of personalisation - 'If not human, be humane.'
Ever since they entered the market, chatbots on messaging platforms have been hit. They are having a positive impact on businesses, as more industries are jumping aboard the 'personalisation' bandwagon. Now, what is the next step? What does the future behold for this eclectic union? Here are 3 possibilities -
  • With chatbots, messaging apps will become the new browsers. They are about to do for businesses what websites were doing for them about a decade back. Forrester Research expects investments in AI and Machine Learning to triple in 2017, to better harness user behavior, to enhance the conversational interface brought about by bots.
  • Messaging apps will become more relevant to IoT installations. For e.g. more customers will begin to receive coupons, notifications on sales etc. via messages when they happen to just pass by the store. Or alternatively, employees in a factory can stay better connected with their machinery, and make better use of the data collected.
  • The 'App culture' is sinking, as users are getting more tight-fisted about device memory and data usage. But messaging apps/platforms are still titled 'essential' because messaging is now a way of life. Since chatbot platforms can directly deploy bots onto these apps, the need for a proprietary app is canceled. And the scope of services that businesses offer on these apps can keep expanding.
With the advancement in AI and Machine Learning towards its capabilities, chatbots are about to go a long way in understanding the nitty-gritty human behavior through messaging apps. But if McLuhan's theory still holds good a decade from now, chatbots might even become a critical part of human perception overall.

How Webinars Can Skyrocket Your Website Traffic

December 20, 2017 0
How Webinars Can Skyrocket Your Website Traffic

The average person doesn't have a website or blog of their own. Their only online activity is checking their email, looking at social media and using Google or some other search engine to search for information. So why is this relevant to you as a small online business owner?

It's relevant because you're perceived as an expert simply by owning a website. So when you host a webinar, you benefit from even a greater perception that you're an expert and a leader in your field.
And when you webinar covers some big problem in the lives of your target audience, those people don't forget who you are.
What Is A Webinar?
The term webinar is a mixture of the words "web" and "seminar". Before the internet, to hear an expert talk about a particular topic, people would have to travel to a particular place. Often these could be long distances away and involve many hours of travel for all involved. But today, with simple webinar technology, business owners large and small can conduct seminars on the internet, spending little to no money, and still reach a large audience with their message.
A Webinar Draws Visitors To Your Website
People who show up at your webinar visit your website over and over. This boosts your website traffic, and because your webinar was focused toward a very distinct issue or question, this is targeted traffic that they will be very interested in buying your products or services.

These website visitors also interact with others with the same problem or question that you sorted out or answered. This word-of-mouth promotion produces more targeted and free website traffic.
Benefits Of Hosting A Webinar
Webinars make it possible for you connect to your audience as a human being. People can see and or hear who you are. You're no longer just another online business owner. Each of the people in your webinar audience, regardless of how few or how many, feel like you're talking to them in a one-on-one conversation.
This improves your significance to these people, and drives a steady stream of website traffic to your website now and in the future.
Webinars And Collaboration
Webinars are an effective website traffic generator that builds your brand and develops your voice of authority. Working together on a webinar with another business owner in your niche or market means you both benefit. When you publicize a forthcoming webinar to your database, your webinar partner has a opportunity to attract new clients, and you do as well.
There are a lot of reasons why webinars work better than other marketing models for boosting engagement, building your list, making sales and improving your business profile. If you're planning your first webinar or you want to improve on your last one, download this free Webinar Success Checklist to make you look like a pro: https://jonallo.com/webinarchecklist

How To Build An Email List Using Nothing But Blog Posts

October 30, 2017 0
How To Build An Email List Using Nothing But Blog Posts

How to build an email list?
A question asked by both seasoned and "newbie" email marketers alike. After all, if your email marketing is going to be successful (in other words, if it's going to make you a lot of money) then you're going to need an email list full of genuine prospects.
If you fail to build an email list like this, then whatever email marketing strategy you planned on using will fail.
Now, there are numerous ways in which you can build an email list. Some involve paid advertising methods; others involve methods which allow you to build an email list for FREE.
And it's one of these free list building methods that you'll be learning about today.

Specifically, how you can use a simple WordPress blog to get a ton more subscribers join your list.
What you need to do is this:
First, you need to write your daily email to your list.
Once you've written it, you should then do the following:
Re-write that email, adding a bit more "meat" to it. However, this "meatier" version is not going to be re-sent to your list. Instead, you're going to upload it to your WordPress blog.
The reason you should send your email list a "non-meatier" version is because people already on your list don't want to have to read anything that's going to take up more than a minute or two of their time.
They want to get some value, get entertained, and then get on with their day (though hopefully they'll buy whatever you're selling first).
Yet people who visit your blog will be expecting slightly "meatier" content. If you don't provide it to them, then they'll quickly stop reading.
Plus, the people already on your email list will know more about you and the topics which you are writing about, compared to someone who is visiting your blog for the first time. Therefore you'll need to do less explaining in your emails.

Okay, so let's say you've done this step.
Now what?
Well, now you should keyword optimize your content. Just so your blog post has more of a chance of appearing in a prominent position on the search engines.
Anyway, let's say you've now got traffic to your site. Next, you've got to persuade people to subscribe to your email list after reading your blog.
There are two ways in which you do this:
1) You place an opt-in box underneath your blog post.
So after someone has finished reading your post, they will naturally see your opt-in box and hopefully be persuaded to enter their email address.
2) You keep the same call-to-action which you used in your email, only instead of sending them to your sales letter like you would with your email list, you send them to another page which is optimized for getting hold of their email address.
What I mean by this, is that on this separate page, you should "sell" the benefits of opting into your email list.

Plus, you should also be offering an "ethical bribe" in exchange for people giving you their email address. An ethical bribe is something you give away for free, in return for people joining your list.
For example, you might offer a free report which offers the solution to a particular problem facing your market. Though like I say, this is just an example. To come up with the best possible ethical bribe for your own market, you need to know your market well enough to know what would appeal to them.
Anyway, that's how you can use your WordPress blog to get a ton of email addresses.
Yes, this is just one way of how to build an email list.
But it's a powerful (and free) way of doing so.
Though it doesn't matter how big your list is if you don't have an email marketing strategy which will see you make as much money from your list as possible.
So if you want to learn how to get your own email strategy in place, you should read your FREE issue of the "Emails on Fire" newsletter.
