Social Media's Effect on Medical Practices

May 23, 2018 0
Social Media's Effect on Medical Practices

Social media today is the most impactful way to market services and products. Its prowess has fetched a distinct range of customers to many businesses.

And the healthcare industry is fast catching up. The inhabitation of medical practices in multiple varsities of social media has sent ripples in the society of its impact. With an exponential rise in the number of "e-patients," the trustworthiness of information shared on these platforms is being constantly questioned. The fact, however remains that role of Facebook and Twitter cannot be undermined.
Be it communication on online communities, mere information dissipation through platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, MySpace, Yelp, YouTube elucidating medical procedures or patient experiences, the vicinity of social media is completely embedded in medical practices and will continue in the near future.
THE IMPACT: POSITIVE
A recent study showed 1/6th of the internet fraternity chooses internet for health information. This conveys a clear message that e-patients are steadily becoming self-reliant. That is an additional advantage for social media in the healthcare industry.

• Growth in number of e-patients: Online communities have allowed patients to connect globally and given them an opportunity to share their issues. You may not be the only one in the world to have a particular disease. What these forums and communities are doing is allowing patients to choose the best option when it comes to finding remedies. Furthermore, these communities retain confidentiality of patients.
• Direct communication: With the advent of social media, communication with the doctors has become a lot easier. Earlier, it used to be much more difficult. Now, patients are able to seek medical advice quicker. Seeing the rising interest of patients, doctors also are starting to provide direct information to them in the form of blog posts, tweets and Facebook updates.
• Marketing Avenue for pharmacy: Social media is also proving to be a magnificent tool for pharmacy industry to launch products. It has given consumers the power and ability to rate and review products, henceforth providing crucial information to those who would like to purchase these products.
• Raising awareness: Doctors are frequently using these platforms to inform patients about multiple health issues and health products that may prove beneficial. Websites such as Facebook and Twitter allow patients to get relevant knowledge much faster.
THE IMPACT: NEGATIVE
Every coin has two sides. With every positive side, there comes negative side too and this holds true for social media as well. However, constant engagement of the users may decrease the negative impact.

• Exploitation of social networking: There have been cases where these platforms are often used to abuse others. In one such incident, a hospital staff abused a man who was beaten up badly. Instead of helping him, the staff clicked pictured of him and posted on Facebook. This not only violates the privacy of the patients, but also shows how social media can affect someone's life.
• Lack of correct information: No matter how much far social media goes, nothing beats the personal treatment of a doctor. In some cases, one may rely on the information available. However, how much a patient can rely on the information provided by online communities and forums? YouTube videos can be trusted to a certain context. To check the relevance of the information, the e-patient must thoroughly examine the genuineness of the person providing the information.
• More investment of time: No doubt, social media demands more time from doctors. This facet is often questioned repeatedly. Doctors have to think twice before investing their time because they fear it might eat up their valuable time.
Overall, it clearly shows that social media cannot replace conventional marketing means. Yes, when it comes to creating and spreading awareness, it is the best bet!

Is Business Social Media Marketing Still Worth It?

March 08, 2018 0
Is Business Social Media Marketing Still Worth It?

Articles on the algorithm change on Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat are circulating all over the internet. They say it has become harder for business to market online because the platforms aren't like they used to be.

The platforms are implementing these changes in an attempt to leverage the "social" in social media. This, however, does not remove businesses from the picture. Business social media marketing is still very well all the effort and money today. Here are some reasons why:
You Can Target Your Audience
The internet is a big place with over billions of users world-wide. Not all of them will be willing to purchase your product, so what's the point of marketing to them? Facebook ads allow you to target a specific location and age range with specific interests so you can ensure that the right people are seeing your ads.
Facebook knows the activity of its active users, so instead of picking out your customers one by one, you can let the platform do it for you with ease. After you've set up your ad, it can be up and ready for your target audience to see.
It Can Add to Your Website Traffic
Simply by creating your own page on Facebook, you can increase your online presence greatly. Aside from SEO and PPC, social media is also an effective strategy for increasing your search engine rankings. Search engines are also considering social media queries since internet users are not only using Google, Yahoo, or Bing, but also social media platforms to look for answers. Adding a link to your website in your social media page will also allow more traffic to come in to your website than ever before.

Connecting With Your Customers Is Easier
Facebook is a convenient for when customers have inquiries about your products or services. Some will prefer to send you a message because they aren't confident enough for a call, and it'd be too bothersome to go there physically. The message arrives to you in an instant and will allow you to do something to fix it quickly.
Furthermore, customers appreciate a company that is dedicated in catering to their customers when they are in need. This improves your relationship with your customers. If you are lucky enough, you may receive positive reviews on your page, and hopefully, this will pave the way to loyalty to your brand.
When building a good reputation online, reviews are a solid way of showing potential customers that your service is authentically excellent. Consequently, in times where there are bad reviews, it also comes in handy since it can help you in improving your services so that bad incidents don't occur again.

The Return of Investment Is Simply Big Enough
Social media is free, even if you use it 24/7. Say, you spend money to outsource to a digital marketing firm to manage your social media accounts; the amount of revenue you'll receive is far greater than the cost you'll expend.
That and the fact that constant social media exposure is a long term investment, because you've got your name out there and people are more likely to remember you. So don't be afraid be afraid to venture social media marketing.
The Competition Is Equal
Startup businesses have access to the same tools on social media that big businesses do. This levels the playing field for you. While it is true that they might have a greater budget allocated for social media marketing, both of you still have equal opportunities to gain popularity. If you have a content team that is creative enough, you too can make your posts viral like the big names in your niche or field.
Business social media marketing is a large part of everyone's daily lives whether they are aware of it or not. That's why doing business with it will remain effective for a long time. It won't be going away any time soon, that's for sure, so don't be afraid to invest in it.

Social Media-Not?

February 13, 2018 0
Social Media-Not?

It is now standard operating procedure for business owners and other self-employed professionals to have a visible presence on one or more social media platforms, in addition to a website. We've internalized the assumption that there is no way to launch or sustain a viable business without an active online presence spread over an array of platforms. The reality is that most of us in business are afraid to dial back the social media and so the practice continues. We fear that if we don't participate, competitors will eat our lunch and customers will abandon us.

Many of our colleagues and competitors spend rather a large amount of time tweeting, posting photos to Instagram and videos to YouTube, friending and linking with 500 or more "connections." But really folks, what is the demonstrable ROI of this activity? How does social media build and enhance your brand, generate leads, or result in sales?
Those who sell services depend on referrals that are based on trust and reputation. How can those attributes be communicated electronically to strangers? Beyond a certain point, I respectfully submit, social media activity results in little more than a creative way to waste time and money.
Alan Weiss, president of Summit Consulting and author of numerous books, including Million Dollar Consulting (2009), has for several years offered to split his (large) consulting fee with anyone who shows him how to acquire a client purely through social media or any other online channels. To date, there have been no takers.
Still, I've observed that in certain businesses and organizations, social media and website marketing can yield a good ROI. Performing artists, clothing designers, restaurateurs and professional organizations come to mind as excellent candidates for Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram to provide outreach and engagement with past, present and future patrons.
On the other hand, there are social media and website holdouts and at least a few are making a good living. Maybe they possess valuable competitive advantages, such as excellent word-of-mouth, which is always the best form of advertising, and exceptional skills?
Among that group I am friendly with two interior designers who have more clients than can be handled (in three or four cities, mind you) and the owner of a small neighborhood breakfast and lunch restaurant that is nearly always packed. Moreover, three of the six most successful Solopreneur consultants whom I know do not even show up in Google searches.
In a 2016 survey of 350 U.S. businesses with 10 or fewer employees and annual revenues of $1,000,000 or less, 46% have no website. Of that group, 12 % rely on Facebook and other social media platforms in place of a website. Lack of demonstrable benefits, cost and the time required for online updates were the most frequently named reasons for opting out.

I do not advocate that Solopreneurs and business owners close down your online presence. Rather, I recommend that you consider the ROI of your social media marketing investment, integrate with your traditional marketing and advertising strategies and confirm that what you feel are the correct social media metrics actually measure activities that benefit your organization.

Social Media Marketing Tips & Tricks for 2018

January 04, 2018 0
Social Media Marketing Tips & Tricks for 2018

As we enter into a new chapter on a new calendar year, it's time to start thinking about effective social media marketing strategies for your small business. In order or you to stay ahead of the competition it's imperative for you to adjust your marketing strategy to take advantage of prevailing trends and the ever evolving market for various business industries. The small business platform has changed a lot within the last few years and staying up to date with those changes can be a challenge.

Below are a few social media marketing tips To keep you ahead of the competition in 2018.
  1. Increase Your Visibility - The reason social media marketing is so huge is because so many people spend time there. You can't increase visibility for your business and online personality with a private page. During the year 2017, I saw a lot of this and it made me scratch my head a bit. I'm not sure why but the drawbacks to this can hurt your brand. If your biggest concern is unwanted spam comments, this can be controlled and eliminated with the block button and by updating your settings. The goal is to accommodate your audience and generate leads. Make sure every piece of your social media strategy serves the goals you set and the people who will see it. Refine your social media presence. It's vital to the survival of your brand. Increasing your visibility drives traffic and invites engagement.

  2. Focus on Mobile - Most searches and website visits are done via mobile. Unfortunately, most businesses are yet to truly embrace mobile within their marketing strategies. Make it a point to optimize your website content and digital assets for mobile users this year. The efforts will improve your ROI from all digital channels and will drive prospects to your website boosting traffic from search engines in the proceeds. I'm not only talking about design and loading speed, but truly optimizing the user experience for site search, commerce, form entry, navigation and general mobile usability.

  1. Make Engagement a Priority - You need to be social on social media. It's not a soap box for you to stop by to stand on to make an announcement once in a while. It was built so that individuals around the world could connect with one another. The size of your "followers" on social media doesn't matter if no one is paying attention. Large followings make you feel good but if there is no message for them to follow it's unlikely your brand will make much impact. What really matters is engagement. Engagement is what earns you shares which generates leads that turns into sales and having loyal customers. You also should make it a point this year to frequently revisit your buyer personas to ensure your message stays fresh and relevant to your audience. This level of interaction is what solidifies your brand.

  2. Content - Planning your calendar and content strategy for this year should be at the top of your to-do list. If you haven't got started yet, yesterday would be a good time. Paid ads on social media are great. They generate good leads. But, it's equally important to learn how to create a reliable, predictable and scallable flow of traffic that converts into clients and customers so that business it stays afloat with or without it. This can only be done by producing great content. All it takes is some it takes some effort, trying out a few different tactics and consistency. If you're willing to invest the time, you can have all the perks of a well-trafficked business and website without spending an astronomical sum on paid ads. As a business owner and content creator, it's part of your job to deliver compelling info to your customers about your products and services. Great content, compelling headlines, back-links, optimized SEO, sales campaigns and email marketing generated excellent, reliable traffic, and sales long before the social media paid ad game was invented. It still does.

  1. Video Streaming - Video in real-time is becoming more and more popular with consumers. Many social media platform giants are all investing more money into improving their video streaming capabilities and with good reason. It offers new opportunities for content marketing as well as customer engagement. It is a format that has gained serious momentum in the last 12 months and is the future of branding. It's a great idea to add it to your business marketing strategy this year.
In general, the more specific and strategic you can get with your social media marketing plan, the more effective you'll be in its implementation. Whether it's Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest or Instagram, there's so much you can do in the way of marketing and creating new opportunities for yourself while adding tremendous value to your clients, customers and readers. Don't make your social media marketing strategy so lofty and broad that it's unattainable. Balance is key. Always keep your customers and audience in mind. A good business objective will guide your actions, but it will also be a measure by which you determine whether you're succeeding or failing.

How's Your Customer Service Faring On Twitter, Email, And Chat?

December 18, 2017 0
How's Your Customer Service Faring On Twitter, Email, And Chat?

The speed at which you respond to customer queries plays a big factor in the success of your business.
No matter how amazing your products are, if you don't have the time and the right information to resolve the issues your customers face, you're unlikely to succeed.

In this age of digital commerce, when landlines are not as in demand as they were two decades ago, you must be constantly where everybody is - social media sites.
Even texting falls behind Facebook Messenger in terms of number of users; nearly 75% of 18 to 29-year-olds converse through the latter.
Twitter, email, and web chat are messaging channels favoured by most people, but, unfortunately, few online retailers respond on these platforms.
A big improvement on Twitter response time
Based on the 2017 Eptica Retail Conversation Study, which surveyed 40 premier retail brands in the UK, many companies failed to answer 46% of customer queries received on email, Twitter, Facebook, and web chat.
Only 7.5% of them managed to respond across all channels, while a paltry 2.5% provided accurate information consistently.
It's worth noting, though, the massive improvement in the way retailers have handled their customer service on Twitter over the past 12 months. Eptica said tweets were answered in an average of four hours and five minutes compared to 13 hours and 10 minutes in 2014.

On the other hand, queries that were sent to them via email took 43 hours and 52 minutes to be answered, which is longer than eight hours in 2015.
Why live chat is vital to customer service
Live chat is an important eCommerce tool as it allows a business to interact with customers and address their concerns in real time.
If used properly, it can drive loyalty and higher revenues to your store.
Although 65% of consumers surveyed by Eptica said they are more comfortable with live chat now than they were five years ago, only 15% of them turned out satisfied with the experience.
Majority of them don't like waiting too long for a response to their query; oftentimes, let alone an irrelevant one.
However, not every online company failed in this area.
Those that are reaping the benefits of live chat did not hesitate to invest in a reliable chat system and incorporate machine learning to ensure consistent, accurate, and quick responses.
Which of these tools are you using to provide customer service and how are you faring so far?
Multichannel marketing is the quickest route to reach your customers, so don't be left behind. Find tutorials on Magento, M2E Pro, Magmi and other eCommerce tools that will help you sell and earn more on Amazon, eBay and your own website at UnderstandingE.
See you there!

Conquering Your Social Media Bad Habits

November 14, 2017 0
Conquering Your Social Media Bad Habits

Social media can really put a damper on human interactions. We had just finished dinner at our daughter's house. The fire was burning in the fireplace and the lights were soft and glowed orange. The four of us had moved away from the table and relaxed on the overstuffed sofas. I looked at my wife, daughter, and son-in-law. They were all buried in their phones, checking out their social media messages and I had nobody to talk to. We have all developed some bad habits as a result of technology but it isn't too late to fix that situation.

Conversation is becoming obsolete

The truth is that we have come an extremely long way in a relatively short amount of time, technologically speaking. Of course, that is a good thing. It is hard to believe that not too many years ago, it was uncommon to be given a computer at work. At that time, everything was done on paper and, if we were lucky, the computer would supply supporting information for whatever we were working on. Now, people, young and old, don't know what they would do without relying on some sort of device.

Taking it to the other extreme
When it comes to social media, in so many ways, it is brilliant and revolutionary. However, that doesn't mean that human interactions should be sacrificed as a result. Social media is a vehicle that allows you to be creative and to feel comfortable in that creativity. It gives you the opportunity to express yourself in ways that you may not have done before.

Of course, there are still rules of engagement and etiquette guidelines that you must follow. After all, without rules, chaos will generally be the result. However, you probably don't have too much difficulty respecting the guidelines. On the other hand, sometimes, you may not realize that you have picked up some practices as you are interacting on the various social media channels that you need to eliminate.
It should never be about you or your business directly

Over and over again, you have probably read that your online social relationships will only succeed if you put the other person's needs and wants before your own. That means that if you start out the conversation addressing the other person's issues, you stay on topic. You should not allow the conversation to come around to your wants and needs. There will be plenty of time for that to come later.

On a personal level, you may feel that it is unfair to put the other person first 100% of the time. However, when it comes to professional interactions, that is exactly how it should be. What you may not realize is that if you satisfy the needs of the other person, your needs will be satisfied as well.
One thing that you should do regularly is get involved in the discussion. Respond to comments that other people leave on blogs, ask thought-provoking questions, etc. Get involved and stay involved. Your involvement will certainly improve the quality of the interactions and everyone will benefit because of it. Of course, it goes without saying that the content that you are posting should be top-quality and compelling each time that you post it.
Never give them the hard sell

If you have been lucky enough to successfully start to develop a relationship with one of your online connections, be grateful and appreciative. Don't get greedy because it will not end well. If the person is willing to be a part of your relationship journey, be gracious about it. Let him or her set the boundaries. If you push too much, you may come up empty.

Relationships take time and effort to develop. You should not think that a relationship that is based on business is any different from any other relationship because it is not. It requires the same nurturing, tenderness, and love as all relationships. One of the essential elements in your relationship is trust. If you involve the other person in different ways, he or she will begin to trust you and that will lead to a lasting connection between you.

People love to know that their opinions count. Ask the person what he or she thinks about whatever you are discussing. Go one step further and ask the person if he or she would like to contribute content to your site or to your blog. That will go a long way for you. Truly get involved with the other person. The hard sell is never appropriate, not online and not in person.
Learn how to listen
The fact is that you need to understand your subject matter intimately. However, you also need to know how to listen to the other person. In fact, in many cases, listening is even more important than speaking. Of course, in a relationship, you both get to speak and you both get to listen. Obviously, your relationship must be mutual or it isn't a true relationship.

Your personal interactions with other people online are critical to your business' success. Of course, posting content must be one of your top priorities but listening to what other people have to say is another one of your priorities. Learning how to listen, really listen, will help you to provide the content that the other person needs and wants. Without the other person, you will have no direction. You need to establish an emotional/human connection with the other person because he or she needs to be able to relate to you and to what you are saying. If you can accomplish that, you are on your way to solidifying your relationship.

Use your unique voice

Whatever you do, always be there for the other person. We have come way too far to sit around, staring at a screen (large or small), without connecting as human beings. Part of the appeal of being human is that the connections that you have with other people are warm and real.

Each person is unique. Make sure that you highlight your uniqueness and use it to strengthen your relationship with the other person. Your uniqueness (and the other person's) is what makes your relationship so special. That is precisely why you need to be careful about how much you automate what you are doing and how much you do manually. You can feel free to interact online but remember to do it appropriately and politely.
Conclusion

Social media is here to stay. You will continue interacting online and will only increase your interactions over time. It is important to be introspective and to recognize when you have gotten into bad habits that you need to break. After all, you don't want to sit around after dinner, staring at a device instead of having exciting human interactions.

How Twitter's 280 Character Increase Can Work for Your Business

It's official. Our Twitter timelines have doubled in size. All tweets will now fit 280 characters, up from 140. The new limit rolled out to Twitter users in almost all 40 languages. This is a big move for Twitter and can be an even bigger move for your business.

The increase in characters shifts the focus directly on content. With the new increase you can create lengthier tweets that spark more conversation and keeps your audience more engage. Of course this could have been achieved with the 140 character limit and likely already has for many, depending on your demographic.
But, with 280 characters, you are now able make more concise tweets that offer more insight about your brand without the worry of limits or having to overstate the matter over a spread of two or more tweets.
People love to talk about what's trending. People love to share. What better way to get your business thriving than by sharing more content with your target audience. Think of it this way, now you are able to discuss a lot more in greater detail about your products, services and current promotions. The better the quality of content shared in your tweet, the bigger boost you'll see in the long-term as people learn to come to you for information.

The boost also places more emphasis on the use of hashtags which is very important when promoting your business on he Twitter platform. Hashtags increase visibility in search engine rankings and is very effective when used to promote an event for business purposes. This not only allows small business owners and bloggers to expand their new customer base but it also generates more leads without you having to pay for them. How's that for an Aha! moment?
Twitter has about 330 million monthly active users around the world. The more you post, the more likely others are to engage with you. The primary focus is to drive interaction between you and your followers by re-tweets, replies, mentions and favorites. The 280 character increase will help you to further your brand's message by getting the word out and giving your followers what they want more of.
A Few Useful Marketing Tips To Help Utilize the 280 Character Increase
  • Start adding more detail about your brand in your posted tweets. Discuss what's going on with your business.
  • Use the right hashtags and increase them. The more hashtags, the more visible your brand.
  • Provide more commentary with your shared images. This encourages conversation with your base.
  • Interact with people by responding to their tweets and the tweets of others. Ask questions. Be descriptive. Give clarity.

Social media marketing helps a business to build its brand. Nothing expresses your brand on Twitter more than added content. Marketing your brand on Twitter is essential for spreading your business information and taking your business to the next level. Being able to share more content without the character limitations Twitter once had on its user platform is an added benefit to utilizing your marketing strategy and cementing the growth of your business.
